Fees
Our fees reflect our
significant expertise in the area of medicine and the law and
are generally based on a percentage of the total amount
recovered under a contingency fee arrangement.
Contingency Fees
Contingency fee arrangements allow a client to pay
legal fees only in the event of success. If the case is
successful, the client is charged an agreed upon amount,
usually a percentage of the amount recovered. If the
case is unsuccessful, the client pays no fee.
With contingency fees, the lawyer accepts the risk of
not being paid and the fees
generally reflect this risk.
In medical malpractice the risks can be high.

Regulation of Contingency Fees
On
October 31, 2002, the Law Society of Upper Canada passed
a new rule which permits Ontario lawyers to enter into
contingency fee agreements with their clients and set
guidelines for the determination of what is a "fair and
reasonable" contingency fee.
Further
information on contingency fee regulation can be found
on the Law Society website:

Charity
We view our social
responsibility seriously. As a result, a significant
percentage of our fees are donated to charitable causes. We
have donated tens of thousands of dollars to a wide range of
worthy causes, including more than $70,000.00 to fund scholarships at the University
of Western Ontario, Queens University and the University of
Victoria.
